Pub Zine: The Moseley Arms & Cleary's Irish Bar

The 5th pub we went to on our little pub crawl was The Moseley Arms which is not only a pub but also a hotel. The Moseley Arms is located in outer Digbeth near Cleary's Irish Bar. The Moseley Arms is a modern style pub which looks like a chain however it is independent. We spoke to a gentleman in there who works across the road from the pub, he said that he drinks there mainly because of the location but also because they have a great choice of beers and ales on draught. He said that theres no atmosphere in there as theres no true style unlike Cleary's which he compared it to.

Due to him saying he drank in Cleary's Irish Bar we decided to go in there aswell as it was just round the corner. It is a true Irish local pub which has a lot of character. When we went in we spoke to another gentleman who is a regular in there and he told us he drinks in there due to working nearby. However, he compared it to The Moseley Arms as he said he used to drink in there, then when he found Cleary's he started drinking in there as it had more character and seems like a proper local. It was a colleague who first took him there and he said he was a bit unsure whether they'd be welcome at first place but when they went in he really liked it and now he tends to have a drink in there. He said that the thing thats most important to him about a pub is the location, price of beer and variety.

We asked both the gentlemen about independent V chain, they both responded saying they'd rather put their money into an independent pub, however, cost is a big thing so if a chain pub in a similar location was a lot cheaper then they'd probably drink there.
