Brief One: Design Choices: Typography, Layout and Colour
Above are four page examples from my editorial. One main noticeable feature is the amount of typefaces I have used, as normally there would only be two or three throughout, however, I have used Georgia for the body copy which is a serif typeface, a letterpress serif typeface for page titles, a letterpress sans-serif typeface for the cover and Grotesque no.9 for the quotes on some of the pages. The reason I did this is because that is what they did in the 60s football programmes I was using for inspiration and I wanted to make the design as similar to that as I could. Also the large quote pages and collages were meant to replace the adverts in the programmes so particularly the last image was meant to look like a replica of an advert but using a quote, as the adverts would all use different typefaces this is another reason why I chose to use quite a few different ones.
Another noticeable feature is the amount of white space in the body copy pages. Similar to the typefaces, I also did this as this is what they have done in the programmes and again I wanted to make my design as authentic as possible.
Another element I want to discuss is there choice of combining colour and black and white, again this is due to me replicating the era as they would have mainly used black and white due to colour printing being expensive. However, in the 60s the covers and some of the adverts would have been in colour which is why I decided to do the collages and cover in colour.
