Design Manchester '19: Extinction Rebellion Poster Workshop and Talk

Extinction Rebellion

Extinction Rebellion talk:

The founders of Extinction Rebellion gave a talk regarding some of their issues with society today. One of the issues they spoke about was the the government and how the view people and they way that they view people as stats not as actual people. They then went on to discuss the climate emergency and spoke about what they are doing to try and help top combat it. The main idea they spoke about is that Design isn't Important, its the message that matters, as a designer I found this idea interesting as designers obviously want to make everything look nice but they told us to forget that and to just make stuff that means well.

Poster Workshop:

The main reason we went to Design Manchester was for this workshop as Malcolm Garrett had sent us the brief and offered it us as a Print Club brief, so we went to see what the workshop was about and to see how we could alter it to change it to a Print Club style brief. After going to the talk and taking part in the workshop my head was filled with ideas for how we could run it and the type of resources we could gather. As in the talk Extinction Rebellion told us that their typeface is there for anyone to download and they put a lot of their assets online for free download, so that made it easy that we would print out their typeface so people can use that for type, and we would download as many resources as we can. Aswell as this people will be able to use found images from newspapers, magazines and the computer.
