Magazine Covers Task

Eye magazine

Standard posting and placement of the headline however, the clear focal point of the cover is the central illustration therefore the headline is more tucked away and smaller so as to not  detract from the cover image.
The magazine is a design magazine therefore directed to audience that are very visually driven using a large interesting illustration attracts their audience. Also reflects the content.
Everything about the cover is tucked away the issn number, strapline etc.- no cover lines to give way for the illustration.

  • The logo is large and in a contrasting colour to the cover making it the focal point. The title is also in the same colour, however, it is in a light font so it doesn’t stand out too much.
  • The barcode and price are in the bottom left hand corner so that they don’t take up much space, they also appear on the part of the photograph thats just plain so they’re not hiding any of the image.
  • There is a small strapline centred at the bottom of the cover. Instead of it being written in white like the rest of the type it is written in red which is a less contrasting colour. It is written in a small pt size. Both of these imply that its not very important as it isn’t a part of the cover you see quickly.

Boneshaker

  • The logo is quite small so it doesn’t take up any of the illustration. It is also written in a contrasting but neutral colour so that you can see it clearly.
  • There is no barcode on the cover so it would either be on the back or it would be a magazine you order online meaning that it wouldn’t need one
  • On the cover it only has the logo and issue number meaning that there isn’t any information about whats in the magazine, this is quite different to the covers we have already looked at. From looking at the cover I wouldn’t be able to tell you what type of magazine it is, but after looking at multiple covers I would assume its to do with cycling as the common feature on all of them is the bike in the illustration.
